The Athol Area YMCA offers many special events throughout the year to make living in the North Quabbin even more unique. From our famous George Washington Hatchet Hunt to the annual Pussy Willow Contest, the Y brings life and fun to the community. Come join us! The Great Muffin Race at Silver Lake Saturday, October 3, 2009. Race starts at 9:00 am (rain or shine). This four-mile run follows a gently rolling course that begins and ends at Silver Lake. Family Fun Run Saturday, October 3, 2000. Race starts at 8:30 am (rain or shine). Prior to the Great Muffin Race, we warm up with this relay style race runs once around Silver Lake. Two or more members of a family may form a team and parents may run with younger children. NO ENTRY FEE! The Eighty-Fifth Annual George Washington's Birthday Hatchet Hunt Monday, February 15, 2010, 9:00 am Begun in 1924 by the legendary Johnny Johnstone, this annual hunt for our first president's famous hatchet continues to grow in popularity with our region's young people. Don't miss it! Easter Egg Hunt Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 4:00 pm Bring your child to our traditional Easter Egg Hunt held annually on the Wednesday before Easter. All children age 10 and under are welcome to participate. Pussy Willow Contest Contest ends May 1 at 1:00 pm Each spring the YMCA Front Desk is the place to find the prettiest pussy willows around. Children age 2 to 12 are welcome to participate. Pussy willows are judged on color, size and most important - fuzziness! Athol Area YMCA Arts Week June 8 - 20, 2009. Join us as we turn our Lobby and Adult Lounge into an art gallery! All members of the community are welcome to submit their recent artwork for this unjuried exhibition. America on the Move Week September 20 - 27, 2009 The YMCA hopes to inspire all Americans nationwide to take ten billion steps during this week of active lifestyle awareness. Wall Climbing and Ropes Course Dates to be announced. Family and adult climbs. Schools are encouraged to have classes participate.
